Working on building sites he self-funded a campaign that saw him win his seat having been given a less than 1% chance by the bookies. In 2017 he wrote a bestselling autobiography about his time in Afghanistan. \n \nHis maiden speech to the House of Commons was acclaimed around the world and marked the start of his Parliamentary career. He served on both the Defence and Health Select Committees\, chairing inquiries into historical prosecutions of servicemen and women and the misuse of prescription drugs\, before campaigning for and subsequently creating the UK’s first Office for Veterans Affairs under Prime Minister Boris Johnson in 2019. \n \nJohnny was sacked from Government in April 2021 after refusing to pass legislation that did not protect Northern Ireland veterans from repeated and vexatious prosecutions from the troubles. \nIn July ‘22\, Johnny regained the role and was later reinstated as Minister of State for Veterans’ Affairs under Rishi Sunak. \nJohnny served on both the House of Commons Defence and Health Select Committees and was also the Chair for the All Party Parliamentary Group for Mental Health. \nJohnny has spoken regularly in the House of Commons with a focus on defence\, veterans and mental health issues. \n \nThis is a True Blue Patrons Supper Club event \nThis is for contacts of Debbie Flint in and around London and Surrey\, plus guests from Devon. \nDebbie Flint‘s True Blue Patrons Supper Club aims to assist Young Conservatives in attending prestigious Conservative events with impressive speakers and to encourage new youngsters to become members of the Conservative Party. Please ask to go on the mailing list for more details and news of future events. \nDebbie Flint is Deputy Chair of Fundraising and Membership for Torridge & Tavistock Conservatives since early 2020 and 2021/22 was Patrons Chair for Reigate & Banstead.
